CIMAM Opens at OGR Torino

The 57th Annual Conference of CIMAM – International Committee for Museums and Collections of Modern Art will open on November 28 at OGR Torino, the innovation and culture hub of Fondazione CRT. Until November 30, Turin will become the international capital of art, welcoming over 300 delegates from around the world.

The event, organized by CIMAM, is supported by the Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT and Fondazione CRT, and curated by the Conference Contents Committee, in collaboration with the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Fondazione Torino Musei, and Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, with the participation of various museums and institutions across the city.

“We are proud that the 57th CIMAM Annual Conference will open at OGR Torino, a symbol of innovation and cultural experimentation, perfectly aligned with the spirit of this prestigious international event,” said Anna Maria Poggi, President of Fondazione CRT. “Fondazione CRT, also through the strategic role of Fondazione per l’Arte CRT, is committed to supporting dialogue between cultural institutions and the contemporary art system, recognizing that culture and creativity are essential levers for social and cultural development. The return of CIMAM to Italy, with an outstanding program curated in collaboration with Fondazione Sandretto, Fondazione Torino Musei, and Castello di Rivoli, is a valuable opportunity to strengthen the positioning of both the country and the city on the global artistic stage.”

CIMAM returns to Italy for the first time in nearly 50 years, having last held its conference in the country in 1976 in Bologna and Prato—the only edition ever hosted in Italy in more than 60 years.

The 2025 CIMAM Annual Conference Content Committee is composed of CIMAM Board Members:

  • Chus Martínez, Director of the Art Gender Nature Institute in Basel (Chair)

  • Kamini Sawhney, Independent Curator, Bangalore

  • Malgorzata Ludwisiak, Ph.D., Museum Management Expert, Independent Curator, University Lecturer, Warsaw

  • Leevi Haapala, Dean, Academy of Fine Arts, University of the Arts Helsinki

As well as the directors and curators of the host institutions:

  • Bernardo Follini, Senior Curator, Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo

Suhanya Raffel stated: “In Turin, we hope to propose a dynamic, open, and participatory exercise: a shared reflection on the difficulties of navigating disruptive change while new paradigms emerge in our sector. A case study-based conference, designed to collectively build a toolkit to confront the many challenges that often leave us feeling overwhelmed and powerless in our everyday work as art professionals. Epictetus—the Greek Stoic philosopher—once wrote: ‘Some things are in our control and others not. Our opinions, motivations, desires, aversions… in a word, whatever is of our own doing.’ This is precisely what we hope to examine together in Turin: our actions, and the relevance of a practice-based culture to ensure an attentive and intelligent future.”

Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, President of Fondazione per l’Arte CRT and Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, added: “We are pleased to host the CIMAM Annual Conference in Turin, where we will develop a collective reflection between the Scientific Committee and guest speakers on how art and culture can still shape our future. Turin has long exemplified the importance of culture to human society. It is a laboratory city where theory becomes practice. Together with the transnational artistic community that CIMAM represents, we want to explore structural transformations in our field, the new beginnings we can envision, and new alliances—including with the economic sector—to ensure art and culture remain central to our society.”

In the coming months, other official conference venues will be announced.
