Artissima 2022

From November 4 to 6, the twenty-ninth edition of the only fair in Italy exclusively dedicated to contemporary art, supported by Fondazione CRT and Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT, returns to Turin.

Artissima Internazionale d’Arte Contemporanea di Torino announces the upcoming long-awaited twenty-ninth edition of the fair, the only one in Italy exclusively dedicated to contemporary art, for the first year directed by Luigi Fassi.

The twenty-ninth edition of Artissima, for the first time sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, is supported by Fondazione CRT, Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT, Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo and the Turin Chamber of Commerce.

Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT, in addition to confirming the historic acquisition activities to benefit the collections of GAM – Galleria Civica di Arte Moderna di Torino and Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, is launching, together with Artissima, the second episode of Beyond Production, the project adventure that began in 2021 with the Surfing NFT project and that in 2022 will address the theme of the Metaverse, in synergy with the OGR Award.

THE THEME OF ARTISSIMA 2022 AND THE PROGRAM

The theme chosen for the edition of Artissima 2022 is Transformative Experience, a concept developed by American philosopher L. A. Paul (professor of Philosophy and Cognitive Science at Yale University) in the essay of the same name published in 2014 by Oxford University Press. According to Paul, a transformative experience is capable of radically altering the person experiencing it, challenging his or her rationally prefigured expectations and opening perspectives into the unknown.

Artissima’s new visual identity reflects the theme of the 2022 edition

Artissima 2022 will feature specific initiatives, confirming its uniqueness in the European cultural scene and its ability to attract some of the most interesting galleries, artists, collectors and curators internationally, with the promise, always kept, of an experimental, research-based, cutting-edge fair.

From Friday, November 4 to Sunday, November 6, 2022, the spacious and bright spaces of Turin’s Oval will host the fair’s four established sections-Main Section, New Entries, Monologue/Dialogue, and Art Spaces & Editions-and its three curated sections-Drawings, Present Future, and Back to the Future-with the participation of 174 Italian and international galleries, including 35 monographic projects. Artissima 2022 galleries come from 28 countries and 4 continents.

Internationally recognized for its focus on experimental practices and as a springboard for emerging artists and research galleries, Artissima is a unique event that attracts a select audience of collectors, industry professionals and enthusiasts each year. With each edition, the fair reconfirms itself as a favorite of curators, directors of institutions, art foundations, and museum patrons from around the world who are involved in various capacities in its program.

The vitality of Artissima and its innovative force will continue to reverberate on the city through active collaboration with numerous public institutions, museums, foundations, and galleries and by catalyzing cultural projects in the Piedmont region. The fair thus reaffirms its dynamic strength by contributing to the growth of the Italian art market, stimulating and supporting a research-oriented collecting and a critical and curatorial vision capable of continuous evolution.
