In this context, Piedmont stands out as one of the most virtuous regions.

At the end of 2025, the Monitoring Committee of the ERDF Piemonte validated the results achieved by the Region in managing European funds: certified expenditure for the 2021–2027 programme reached €173 million, exceeding the targets set by Brussels by €70 million and placing Piedmont first in Italy for its capacity to use European resources.

“European programmes represent an increasingly important opportunity to address challenges that go beyond the scale of individual territories,” said Giovanni Azzone, President of Acri. “To seize these opportunities, project design skills and the ability to build strong international partnerships are essential. Strengthening these capacities enables local authorities and third sector organisations to access new resources and participate in projects on a European scale, often broader than what a single territory could sustain alone. In this process, banking foundations help reinforce local project capacities and promote collaboration between organisations and institutions at European level.”

“Fondazione CRT has long been committed to strengthening the ability of territories to seize European opportunities, investing in skills, partnerships and concrete tools to support project design,” said Anna Maria Poggi, President of Fondazione CRT. “Today more than ever, the European dimension represents a key lever for growth: foundations can act as bridges between local communities and European institutions, facilitating access to opportunities and promoting shared networks and project initiatives.”

At a time when Europe is called upon to respond to new challenges, Italian and European foundations present themselves as natural partners of the European Union: organisations driven by mission, expertise and proximity to local communities, sharing values and objectives in addressing major social, environmental, cultural and innovation challenges.

Across Europe, more than 175,000 foundations operate, distributing approximately €76 billion annually and holding assets exceeding €516 billion. Independent and neutral civil society organisations, institutionally recognised and deeply rooted in local communities, they share with the European Union common values and objectives in tackling major societal challenges.

To further strengthen the capacity of territories to seize the opportunities offered by Europe, Fondazione CRT, together with Acri and nine other partners – Fondazione CRC, Fondazione Cariplo, Fondazione Caritro, Fondazione Cariverona, Fondazione CR Firenze, Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Bolzano, Filiera Futura, Fondazione di Sardegna and ASVAPP – launched ten years ago a free digital orientation and support tool: the Guida all’Europrogettazione, now EUknow.it.

Over this decade, the platform has built a solid national community, with more than 100,000 users, over 17,000 followers and thousands of pages of content, becoming a reference point for universities, public administrations, the third sector and European project professionals.

The event

Following the opening remarks by Anna Maria Poggi, President of Fondazione CRT, and Giovanni Azzone, President of Acri, who highlighted the importance of strengthening the skills of local territories and the third sector in accessing European programmes, as well as the strategic value of cooperation between foundations and institutions, the discussion moved to territorial experiences.

Paola Casagrande, Vice President of Fondazione CRT and former Regional Director for the Coordination of European Policies and Funds, Eugenio Orsini, Head of Grantmaking Activities at Fondazione Caritro, and Vanni Resta, lecturer in European project design at Sapienza University of Rome, presented initiatives aimed at supporting and strengthening European project design across territories and the shared commitment to addressing Europe’s major challenges.

One session was dedicated to the next seven-year European funding cycle. Elisabetta Holsztejn Tarczewski, responsible for the Multiannual Financial Framework at the Permanent Representation of Italy to the EU, presented the main innovations in the architecture of the new European budget for 2028–2034.

Marianna D’Angelo, Head of the Mission Unit for the Coordination of PNRR activities, illustrated the legacy of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan and how it can be leveraged within the new programming cycle.

Luca Jahier, rapporteur of the European Economic and Social Committee on the 2028–2034 Multiannual Financial Framework, explored the strengths and critical issues of the new financial framework emerging from the Committee’s analyses.

Conclusions were delivered by Delphine Moralis, CEO of Philea – Philanthropy Europe Association, who offered reflections on the state of dialogue between foundations and the European Union, engaged in supporting the transition towards the new programming cycle in light of the expectations of philanthropy and civil society.

At the event “Growing with European Projects”, institutions, philanthropy and civil society engaged in a dialogue on best practices, synergies and the EU’s 2028–2034 programming cycle worth €1.8 trillion.

[268
351
post-18114","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-fondazione-crt-en","tag-attivita-internazionali-en
["GET
