Fondazione per l\u2019Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT: 10 New Acquisitions at Artissima 2024<\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The Fondazione per l\u2019Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT has made a significant investment at Artissima 2024, acquiring 10 works by five artists for a total commercial value of \u20ac400,500, ensuring they are available for public enjoyment. Specifically, works by Sara Enrico, Chiara Fumai, and Zhanna Kadyrova will join the permanent collection of the Castello di Rivoli Museo d\u2019Arte Contemporanea, while pieces by Guglielmo Castelli and Chantal Joffe will be featured in the exhibition spaces of GAM \u2013 Galleria Civica d\u2019Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Torino.<\/p>\n

As a long-standing partner of Artissima, the Fondazione per l’Arte of Fondazione CRT increased its acquisition fund from \u20ac200,000 in 2023 to \u20ac280,000 for 2024, “the highest allocation in the past 12 years, a testament to our commitment and confirmation of the support the Fondazione has historically provided to the fair,” stated Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, President of the Fondazione per l\u2019Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT. “The acquired works were selected through a meticulous process by the prestigious and authoritative Scientific Committee of the Fondazione, in synergy with the directors and chief curators of the Castello di Rivoli and GAM. These works are intended to enrich the collections of the two museums in line with their respective strategies and programs.”<\/p>\n

With a total of over 930 works, the collection of the Fondazione per l\u2019Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT represents a significant artistic asset for Turin, fostering international dialogue and offering the public continuous access to the most significant expressions of contemporary art.<\/p>\n

Chiara Fumai, “La donna delinquente”<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

“The acquisition of La donna delinquente<\/em> (2011\u20132013) by Chiara Fumai brings to the collection the work of a great Italian artist, who passed away prematurely, leaving behind a significant body of work focused on the relationship with the world and supernatural identities. This piece, which references historical figures such as Cesare Lombroso, also enhances the Chiara Fumai collection at the CRRI of the Castello di Rivoli.”<\/p>\n

Sara Enrico\u2019s practice renews sculptural language by referencing the history of garments like the jumpsuit, which, since its invention during the Futurist period, has traversed the century with various political and social connotations, culminating in contemporary discussions on gender equality. The acquired work, The Jumpsuit Theme<\/em> (2022), previously exhibited at the last Venice Biennale, is among the most significant pieces created by the artist.<\/p>\n

Zhanna Kadyrova, “Palianytsia (Poland)”<\/strong>
\nCreated in 2022, Palianytsia<\/em> (meaning “bread”) symbolizes the loss of domestic balance caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the artist’s homeland. “Through this work, the artist supports humanitarian organizations aiding those affected by the war,” stated Francesco Manacorda, Director of the Castello di Rivoli Museo d\u2019Arte Contemporanea.<\/p>\n

\u201cGuglielmo<\/strong> Castelli<\/strong> spesso affida al piccolo formato alcune delle sue opere pi\u00f9 intense dove lo sguardo si addentra nella rappresentazione come tra le pagine di un libro. Il mondo immaginario di Jingle Jangle Morning sprofonda, claustrofobico, nel piccolo teatro del dipinto, trascinando la figura in una rocambolesca caduta verso l\u2019alto.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Guglielmo Castelli, “Of aggression and possession”<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Of Aggression and Possession<\/em> is a seminal work that Castelli considers a self-portrait. He placed it, almost as a family emblem, at the entrance of his solo exhibition in Venice during the most recent Biennale.<\/p>\n

“Chantal Joffe has been a key figure in the revival of contemporary painting in recent years. The two selected paintings are part of an important series titled Writers<\/em>, where she continues the tradition of artist portraits. The subjects include Jay Bernard, a poet and writer who won the Sunday Times Young Writers Award in 2020 and the Ted Hughes Award in 2017, and Hanya Yanagihara, a renowned novelist and editor,” stated Chiara Bertola, Director of GAM.<\/p>\n
